Things to love: One of the best things about this book is that it has a clear voice throughout the story. This voice allows for no confusion about who Katniss Everdeen is to the reader. I love that she is the antithesis to the vulnerability that Bella Swan portrays in, Twilight. As the story progresses, the reader can quickly see that not only does Collins have a talent for portraying a strong character, but she also has a brilliant ability to craft a suspense driven story. Her utilization of first person present tense takes our breath away and adds to the reader's ability to really feel like they are a part of the action as Katniss is hunted in the Games.
Things to hate: At times the story can take on an anecdotal tone, like a mother telling her child a scary bed time story. The parts that pertain to the cat Buttercup particularly bring forward this element. While the cat was meant to bring forward emphasis upon the fact that Katniss is stepping into the mothering role for her little sister, the cat is not a strong enough character in the story to completely bring forward this idea for the reader.
Things to note: This story is very enjoyable, though, and I would recommend this story to anyone who likes suspenseful stories.

Today I have decided to change things up a bit. I've deleted all of my old posts. I want to start a new chapter in my life. One that is healthy and happy. So thereby, I am going to begin this new chapter by doing something that I enjoy. Writing book reviews. From now on I will simply keep this blog for that purpose only.

- I have traveled all over the United States as both an active duty United States Marine and now as a Veteran. It is my supreme hope that my characters find their way into the world and provide others with the same kind of wonder that they have provided me with these past years. I am currently working on my first novella called, "The Death Dealer Diaries: Ashes To Ashes." It will be available in ebook format in October 2012 on my website: https://www.amazon.com/author/joyjohnsonwrit3r
